It’s always great to wake up to an empty battery after being on the charger all night.

Kinda sad that we never figured to hook "Verified" ✅ status to rel=me.

Can we please do that? It's good and amazingly simple. #relme

So I wanted to finally implement deleting. But we all know Mastodon's killer feature is "Delete & re-draft", so of course I need that too.

But. I had not expected just how much work that is. Re-using uploaded images and all. Christ, what have I got myself into?

I was going to push out a new beta very soon, but, uh, might be a little while still?

Good morning. Yesterday I wrote a post that tries to distill a variety of reasons to give #Mastodon a try.

It’s written for a general, non-technical audience in mind. I’d love to hear any feedback you have.

One of my favorite #AppleWatch features/tips: my normal face is Modular, with lots of complications for things like the day’s tasks, weather, notes, etc.

But on days off, I often like to switch my Watch face to something relaxing like the Photos face, with my Favorites album synced. I really enjoy seeing a random favorite photo every time I raise my wrist.

Sub-tip: you can quickly switch Watch faces by swiping from the left or right edge.

“Disable replies” feature
github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

It's like an enforced :dont_at_me:, basically!

"If someone is posting something personal/controversial/etc in order shoutout/vent/etc about without the aim of starting a conversation, it could be useful."

If you're into it and you have a Github account, go add your 👍. If you don't have a Github account, give it a boost. ✨

(This is not one of my feature requests, just one that I liked.)

v2.5.0 will probably be released today evening (Sunday)

The siren song of the bird site is that I check in over there and there’s 20 new tweets on my timeline that make me angry but it killed some time and gave me something to read. I check in here and there’s maybe 2 toots and one of them is meta like this one.

Fortnite is using libcurl. Is there a credit/ending screen or somewhere in-game where it says this? If so, can anyone make a screenshot for me? (for a presentation of mine)

“Don’t politicize this funeral” means “don’t honor this person for their life values that I lack and/or oppose”

Yet another new beta version of Toot! is out! This time, it's mostly small improvements and bugfixes.

* Character count on posting screen.
* Toned down CW.
* Better display of direct messages on toot screen.
* Show name of app on toot screen.
* Copy text of toots.
* Hashtags with non-ASCII characters should work now.
* Various other bugfixes.

I've just pushed out v2.5.0rc2 in preparation of the final v2.5.0

github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

It's the 99th release... It would be nice if the next one was v2.5.0 so it would be the 100th one

Before today, I knew: the reason Twitter was originally limited to 140 characters was so it could be transmitted over SMS (which was limited to 1120 bits, or 160 7-bit characters).

TIL: the reason SMS is limited to 160 7-bit characters is because Friedhelm Hillebrand, who was the chairman of the non-voice services committee within the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), found that a) the average sentence was <160 characters, and b) that matched the average postcard.

In essence, Mastodon is a decentralized, open source social network. This is the jenkins.cc instance - just one part of that network - which is run for my own personal use.
